Slayers Evolution-R User Reviews:

This is a continuation of the story started in Slayers Revolution. Together with the last thirteen episodes, its makes one complete season. This takes place after the events in Slayers Try, in which Gourry gave up his Sword of Light to return it to its original world. The story starts with Lina and Gourry in search of a new sword for Gourry. Lina decides to leave bandits alone for a little while to focus on punishing pirates. This is where they meet up again with Amelia and Zelgadis. Lina is falsely accused of crimes by Inspector Weiser, ultimately because of a sworcerer with similar powers in the the form of Pokota - a stuffed animal embued with the soul of a Prince. Pokota is trying to save the people of his kingdom and in order to do that needs to retrieve the soul of Rezzo the Red Priest. Thus the journey begins to unfold the many mysteries surrounding the previously departed Rezzo and his ultimate intentions.

The original three seasons of Slayers are entertaining and a continuous connecting plot throughout them makes the end result a satisfying experience. Picking up with a new story ten years later, the series tries to continue in that tradition. The story is ultimately connected back to the original series. The Rezzo the Red Priest storyline occurs in the very first series, and this is an attempt to come full circle. However, in the end, the plot feels quite forced in order to aquire this closure. It doesn't feel very natural or plausible for the events to occur. The added character of Pokota as a living stuffed animal comes off as contrived as well. If your a fan of the Slayers series, you'll probably still want to give it a chance. But anyone not familiar with Slayers can save themselves the time and pass this one by.
